Managers and roles: owner, administrator, and manager
What each dashboard role can do, why the owner is untouchable, and what happens when you deactivate or delete a manager.
Updated on
In Timlup, roles define who can do what within the account. When that’s clear, it’s easier to share the day-to-day work and protect information. Here’s a straightforward explanation.
The three panel roles
A Timlup account has three roles: Owner, Administrator, and Manager. Each has different access.
- Owner: the person who created the account, and there’s only one. They can add managers, manage billing, and also have the Zona de peligro (Danger zone), the space from which the entire account is deleted.
- Administrator: shares high-level management permissions with the owner. Only the owner and administrators can add managers and manage billing. The key difference is that an administrator cannot deactivate, delete, or demote the owner.
- Manager: focuses on day-to-day operations: checklists, team, and metrics. It’s an operational role to keep the location up to date, without touching the manager structure or billing.
The owner is untouchable
The owner cannot be deactivated, deleted, or demoted. This rule exists so the account always has a point of reference. Even if an administrator has broad permissions, they cannot change the owner’s position.
- For the owner, the deactivation option no aplica (Not applicable).
- They also cannot be deleted or demoted.
- No se puede (Can’t be done): the owner cannot be changed from another profile, whether by an administrator or a manager.
The Zona de peligro also reinforces this idea. Only the owner can enter it to delete the entire account. The other roles don’t have that key.
Deactivating vs. deleting
When we talk about a manager — that is, an Administrator or Manager — you have two options: deactivate or delete. They’re not the same.
Deactivating
When you deactivate a manager, that person loses all panel access as soon as their session expires. Their data and history are preserved. If you want it to be reversible, deactivation is your option.
Deleting
Deleting a manager removes their profile from the team. It’s a more definitive action and isn’t the way to go if you want to be able to go back. For cases where you might need to restore access, deactivation is better.
Remember: for the owner, none of these options applies — no aplica. They cannot be deactivated or deleted.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between administrator and manager?
The administrator can add managers and manage billing, just like the owner. The manager, on the other hand, mainly handles operations: checklists, team, and metrics. That’s the main difference between the two roles.
Can the owner be changed?
No se puede. The owner cannot be deactivated, deleted, demoted, or changed to another role. Not even an administrator can alter that position, because it’s the account’s safeguard.
What happens when you deactivate a manager?
The manager loses all panel access as soon as their session expires; their data and history are preserved. Deactivation is reversible; deletion is for when you don’t want to keep the link with the account.
